Message from the heron housemistress
I find as you get older, time seems to pass even faster; and so here we are saying our goodbyes when it feels like we have just said 'hello!' 'The end of every year always presents the challenge of change, but equally it should give us time to reflect, review and be thankful. I hope each and every Heron girl feels proud of all they have accomplished, especially considering the unusual circumstances we have all found ourselves living through. I hope all our Herons don't just celebrate the big wins, but every moment. Moments when they persevered when they could have given up, or when a little extra effort made someone else's day a little brighter or even when they turned their camera on during a virtual lesson!!! Its been a year of challenges and whilst life has been topsy-turvy, we, as Heron House, have worked to build our sense of community and celebrate who we are as a group of strong, young women. Firstly, this has been possible because of the dynamic leadership team. If ever there was a team you wanted as role models, these young women stepped up and shined brightly. Of course, I know there is more they would have liked to have done, but given the restrictions we had, they truly have the best interests of Heron at their heart. The whole House is grateful and our new Senior Council led by Shanzeh Omar will have been inspired by their work. And what a team we have going into 2022 - 2023. Heron House you will indeed be Poised To Strike. When we said goodbye to the Year 13's we celebrated the full range of Outstanding talent that IIS and Heron House nurtures. We see our girls excel in all disciplines; in the Arts, Sports and Sciences. Our House Captain Aisyah Musib, not just leading our council, but the school's Wellbeing team, while studying for IB and for ballet exams. We have outstanding sporting achievements; as we look ahead to our very own Basma Lachkar as she competes internationally in Wushu. We should all watch excitedly for the artist talents of both Aisyah and Lasmina Virgoe. And then it was time to say goodbye to our Year 1 1's. I know they will thrive and I can't wait to see how they broaden their horizons and experiences and help to bring a positive change to Heron and JIS. And as I have said to the girls, the one thing that is certain is, change. And I believe it is important to embrace it and be mindful of the care and compassion that we show ourselves and others. So it is with a heavy heart that I announce that I will leave JIS this July. I will always be a Heron and hold all the girls in my thoughts. Our new Housemistress will be Naomi Williams who I know will help the girls towards achieving their ambitions. I will miss the girls and the tutors and send so much love and best wishes. To all those leaving Brunei at the end of this year, treasure your memories and now all of us, let's go and make some more. -Georgina Windsor Heron Housemistress
